What does vestibular therapy cost at our clinic?
At Burlington Vestibular Therapy, our pricing is straightforward:
| Appointment | Duration | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Initial assessment | 60 minutes | $125 |
| Follow-up session | 30 minutes | $75 |
Your initial assessment is a thorough evaluation — history, eye movement testing, positional testing, balance assessment, diagnosis, and a personalized treatment plan. Follow-up sessions are focused treatment: repositioning manoeuvres, gaze stabilization, balance retraining, and progress review.
These rates are in line with standard physiotherapy pricing across Ontario. Vestibular therapy is billed as physiotherapy because that is exactly what it is — no premium, no special category.
Most patients pay little or nothing out of pocket
We offer direct billing to most major insurance providers. If your extended health plan covers physiotherapy, we submit the claim for you — you only pay the difference, if any.
Many patients with employer benefits have their sessions fully covered. Even plans with per-session caps (e.g., $60/visit) still reduce your cost significantly.
How many sessions will I need?
Most vestibular conditions resolve in fewer sessions than people expect.
BPPV (the most common cause of vertigo): Often resolved in 1 to 3 sessions. Many patients walk out symptom-free after the first repositioning manoeuvre. Typical total cost: $125–$275.
Vestibular neuritis or labyrinthitis: Usually 4 to 8 sessions of rehabilitation exercises. Typical total cost: $425–$725.
Post-concussion dizziness: May require 6 to 12 sessions depending on severity. Typical total cost: $500–$1,025.
Chronic conditions (Ménière's disease, vestibular migraine): A short course of treatment followed by home exercises, with periodic check-ins as needed.
After your initial assessment, your therapist will give you a clear estimate for your specific condition — no surprises.
Is vestibular therapy covered by insurance?
Yes — if your plan covers physiotherapy, it covers vestibular therapy. No separate approval or referral is needed in Ontario.
What to check on your plan
- Annual physiotherapy maximum — Common amounts are $500, $750, $1,000, or unlimited. Some plans cover a set number of sessions.
- Per-session cap — If your plan caps at $60/visit and your session is $75, you pay $15. With direct billing, we handle the math.
- Referral requirement — Most Ontario plans do not require a doctor's referral for physiotherapy. You can book directly.
Insurers we bill directly
Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Blue Cross, Desjardins, Green Shield, Equitable Life, and many more. Not sure about yours? Call us and we will check for you.
Is vestibular therapy covered by OHIP?
OHIP does not cover physiotherapy at private clinics for most adults under 65. For most working-age adults, extended health insurance through an employer is the primary coverage.
OHIP-funded physiotherapy is limited to adults 65+ who meet specific criteria, patients recently discharged from hospital, or treatment at hospital-based outpatient clinics.
Auto insurance and WSIB
If your dizziness resulted from a motor vehicle accident, your treatment may be covered under your auto insurance (Ontario's SABS covers physiotherapy for accident-related injuries including vestibular injuries from whiplash or concussion).
If it is related to a workplace injury, WSIB covers vestibular rehabilitation. Your employer or WSIB case manager can provide the claim details.
Ways to reduce your cost
- Direct billing — We submit to your insurer so you only pay the uncovered portion.
- Coordinate benefits — If you and your spouse both have plans, claim the remainder under the second plan.
- Split across benefit years — If you are near your plan's reset date, schedule sessions across both periods.
- Health Spending Account (HSA) — Physiotherapy is an eligible HSA expense, making treatment effectively tax-free.
- Tax deduction — Physiotherapy is a deductible medical expense in Canada when total medical expenses exceed 3% of net income.
Is it worth it?
BPPV has a resolution rate above 90% with appropriate repositioning — often in a single session. A short course of vestibular therapy typically costs less than a single specialist appointment and delivers measurable improvement for most patients.
For comparison, a single ER visit for vertigo costs the healthcare system over $1,000 and usually results in no definitive treatment. Untreated vestibular conditions also increase fall risk — a hip fracture costs $30,000–$50,000 in the first year alone.
